Engineers Australia and the Australian Constructors Association (ACA) have joined forces to conduct a major construction Industry Leaders' Forum in Melbourne on 14 May 2015, which will feature Victorian Treasurer, Tim Pallas, as a keynote speaker.

The Forum, Influencing Infrastructure, is to be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre and will bring together leading Australian and international construction companies, engineers, industry professionals, financiers, lawyers and construction supply chain organisations to identify key issues that will assist governments to identify and deliver infrastructure projects.

Commenting on the Forum, Stephen Durkin, Engineers Australia Chief Executive, said that the industry's key players had decided to exercise a stronger voice in the development and delivery of infrastructure projects in the interests of creating and maintaining jobs and economic benefits across the sector and the economy in general.

"Well planned and delivered infrastructure is critical to support population growth and improve our quality of life. Leading industry professionals, and peak industry organisations like the ACA and Engineers Australia, know what works and have the skills and capacity to assist governments to develop sustainable infrastructure projects so they should have a greater involvement in the planning of the pipeline of work," Durkin said.

ACA Executive Director, Lindsay Le Compte, said that the ACA was very pleased that Victorian Treasurer, Tim Pallas, had agreed to be a keynote speaker at the forum as the industry is keen to hear of the Victorian Government's proposals to get the industry moving forward.

"The Victorian Treasurer will join a number of experts from across the industry who will lead discussion on key issues in the development, financing and delivery of infrastructure projects.

"The forum will feature presentations from experts on the current and future economic position of the industry in Victoria and nationally, financing and funding infrastructure projects, safety, sustainability, commercial and industrial issues and key factors that will assist governments to get projects up and running."

Le Compte concluded by saying that the ACA and Engineers Australia had decided to invite industry leaders to the Forum to ensure that their views on what works in the development and implementation of infrastructure projects was clearly pointed out to governments across the country to ensure the effective delivery of those projects and realisation of the flow-on benefits.
